Growing BC population
Since 1990, the number
of people living in BC has increased by nearly a third
(29%), more than in any other province. The Canadian
population grew a little more than half as much (17%)
during that period.

Building Permits increase
by 13% per year
The value of building
permits issued in British Columbia reached a record
$11.5 billion in 2006, representing a 13.2 per cent
increase over 2005. 2006 marked the sixth straight
year of double-digit growth in permit values in the
province. The last time B.C. experienced more than five
consecutive years of increased value in building permits
was exactly 30 years ago, from 1971-1976. The
non-residential construction sector led B.C.’s
construction boom last year with a 21.9 per cent
increase in the value of building permits issued
compared to 2005.
